After last week's unfortunate flop, we had one more chance to rack up points in CDSP obedience. Tova in Raymond, NH held a single evening trial Friday night, and while I was hesitant to enter something that might have us working late (remembering the evening AKC trial where we were competing at 10pm!), I took my chances since it was the last nearby CDSP trial of the year, and easy enough a drive to deal with being out late if it came to that. It ended up working out well, and ended at a reasonable time. Even though I did end up eating dinner at home at 9:30 pm. Oh well. It was worth it... But first, during the day on Friday, we took a jaunt to Wolfeboro, just to walk around town, do some shopping, and reminisce a bit. And snap a few fun pics. We didn't have time to check out the rail trail as planned, but all the more reason to go back. It was a nice relaxed outing. We were happy to find the shops in Wolfeboro to be pretty dog friendly. Tripp as always enjoyed exploring a different place, and soaking up the inevitable attention he attracts. He cooperatively posed for photos at various spots, including putting his head through the gingerbread man at the iconic Yum Yum Shop. What a good kid. :-) Below are a few shots at Wolfeboro Bay... On the docks. Tripp on a bench there, which is not at all easy for doggie paws with the slats. Geoff playfully teasing the boy with cheese. And the bandstand overlooking the lake. And of course at the bakery in town. (Obviously Tripp didn't go inside there.) Nice way to start the day. Now to end it on an even higher note...
We got home just in time to load up the car and leave for the trial. Once there, we were able to relax and do some practicing off and on. For Tripp's post-performance reward I packed a slice of American cheese instead of his usual mozzarella stick. (When I was making sandwiches in the morning, he said he'd do an extra good job for that cheese. LOL) Well, he made good on his promise! No video this time, and not quite as flawless a performance as last weekend, but Tripp did very well again, outside of a few minor position faults. And I didn't have any brain farts to screw him up this time either. Biggest deduction was on those darn gloves again. I'm actually not sure what the 2 points off were for. Probably just a more crooked sit or something. But he did both sets correctly, so that's all that matters. Oh, but he messed with my head each time, the brat! Eyeballed the wrong glove both times on his way out, but thankfully stayed straight and picked up the right one. Good boy. Now what I DO remember is what he did during baseball... Which was both twerpy and amazing. And then twerpy again. ;-) On the first send out he veered hard right and when I called for him to turn and sit, he did so. Practically on top of glove #3. (The dog is supposed to go out in a straight line and sit in the middle of the ring, before sending to the correct glove.) We needed to get glove #2. Of course. From this position, most dogs would just take the glove they are closest to. Tripp? Nope, he's a smart Poodle. (Usually. LOL) I could feel the judge's hope for us dwindle, but when I gave Tripp the cue to go out to glove #2, sure enough he went. The judge actually said, 'Wow!" Wow indeed, and I commented on what a good boy he was. Which apparently jinxed the whole thing, just as he stomped the glove and was reaching to pick it up. I no sooner praised him, than he caught a whiff of something and went off tracking along the back ring gating. :-p Oh that little shithead. LOL He wasn't going back to work on his own, so I had to give him a second command (basically redirect him), which is an NQ in regular exercises. Luckily, this was just the bonus round so doesn't count against our qualifiability. New word! LOL We may have missed out on bonus points, but we still finished with a very respectable score of 197. As I said, not a bad way to end the season. More ribbons, and more championship points. Only 8 this time. Still 62 to go for OTCH. But we are now halfway to UDX. Both will have to wait for next season though. That's it for the year now in CDSP. We will be back in 2017! Hopefully doing just as well. :-D
