We are back in the game, folks! :-) Today Tripp and I competed in CDSP and, woohoo, finished his Utility title! I woke up at an ungodly hour and left just as dawn was breaking to make it for our early ring time 2 hours south into MA at SureFire Dogs. But it was worth it... We arrived in just enough time to set up, visit friends briefly, and practice a bit before our first turn in the ring. Utility A. Tripp was kind of sloppy, but let's be honest, that's not unusual. LOL He has lovely moments, and not so lovely moments. ;-) But he had fun today and still managed to Q, so that's what's important. We took a lot of hits, but managed to score a 183.5 in the end, so not too shabby. Not the prettiest title run, but I will sure as heck take it! Got a first place by default too, as the only team that qualified. On to trial two. We moved up to B class, where we will now be working towards his Excellent and Championship titles. What I failed to realize was that in CDSP, Utility B combines both Utility and Open exercises. When our turn came, they asked for my dumbbell for an Open retrieval exercise. Of course, I had not packed it. Yikes! Thank God for nice people. Somebody let me borrow one of theirs, and Tripp was obliging to fetch it, so all was well. It sure did stir up some ring nerves in me though!
Despite me starting off slightly flustered, it was a much nicer performance this time. Tripp was more focused and accurate in position. Took far fewer hits. Half the points off were actually for things I did. Oh, he got silly and and made me think "Ack! What the heck are you doing?!" a couple times, but overall he was quite pretty. Wouldn't you know it, as usual, our best runs are never caught on video. :-p Come awards time, I was nevertheless stunned to hear the judge announce that we earned 2nd place with a total score of 210!! That was a 193 plus 17 bonus points in baseball. (Baseball is an optional exercise that combines a send out & directed retrieve.) Bonus points don't count in placements, but they do count towards OTCH points, so Tripp earned 15 (of the required 100) Championship points his first day out! Wow! Awesome way to start. I can't count on having this much luck every time, but we have several chances this fall with a bunch of upcoming trials. I just better keep up on practice now! ;-)
